Hanuman Garh Trek

Ridge Walk Above the Valley

A steep climb through pine and rhododendron forest leads to the Hanuman Garh ridge — where a small temple perches above the valley and the views stretch from the plains to the snows.

📍
Trailhead
Near Bir village — ask at your homestay for the current best starting point. Some guides available locally.
⏱️
Duration
5–7 hours return at a comfortable pace.
💪
Difficulty
Moderate to strenuous. Good fitness required — there's significant elevation gain.
👟
What to Wear
Trekking shoes essential. Layers — it gets cold and windy on the ridge even in summer.
🎒
What to Carry
3 litres of water, lunch, snacks, a windproof jacket, basic first aid. No shops on the trail.
🏔️
The View
On clear days you see all the way to the Lahul peaks in the north and the Kangra plain to the south. Worth every step.
RestTrail Tip

Start no later than 6am to avoid afternoon clouds obscuring the views from the ridge. The temple itself is small — the ridge is the destination.
